Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about loft conversions, loft storage, areas and quotes. If your question is not here, call 07523 831835 or send the form.

What types of loft conversion are there?

We offer four styles: hip to gable, flat roof dormer, pitched roof dormer and roof light (Velux). The right one depends on your roof, your budget and how you want to use the space.

Which loft conversion is best for my house?

It depends on your budget, the existing roof shape, the ridge height and how you intend to use the space. Get in touch and we will help you decide.

What's the difference between a flat roof dormer and a pitched roof dormer?

Both extend the roof to add height, usable floor space and natural light. A pitched roof dormer is often more attractive and suits a pitched roof, and you can add more than one depending on the property.

What is a roof light (Velux) conversion?

The easiest type of loft conversion. The loft is not altered or extended, and Velux windows sit flush with the roofline. It is cost-effective, quicker and involves less structural work where there is already decent headroom.

What is a hip to gable conversion and which houses suit it?

It extends the roofline at the side of a detached or semi-detached house to create a gable end, adding headroom and floor space. It suits detached and semi-detached homes and works well for bedrooms, en-suites, walk-in wardrobes, offices, studies and playrooms.

What can I use a loft conversion for?

An extra bedroom, a bedroom with an en-suite, a walk-in wardrobe, a home office, a study or a playroom, as well as storage. It adds living space, improves the look of your home and can add value.

What is loft boarding?

Loft boarding lays a solid floor across the joists so the space above your home or garage becomes safe, accessible storage instead of a hard-to-reach void.

What is included with loft storage?

Loft ladders, boarding, lights, sockets, hatches and insulation, all professionally installed.

Do I need planning permission or building regulations approval for a loft conversion?

Many loft conversions can be carried out under permitted development, but not all, and building regulations approval is generally required. Check with Cardiff Council or ask us — we will be straight with you about what applies to your home.

Do you give free quotes?

Yes. Every quote is free and comes with no obligation. Call, WhatsApp, email or send the form.

Which areas do you cover?

Cardiff and the surrounding areas. Not on the list? Get in touch and we will let you know if we can reach you.
